Keith's Reflections

MAIN THOUGHT
When did we give the government power to take life?
When did we give the government the power to send people off to their death in war and when did we allow them to kill people on our own soil?
They should never have been able to have that "right"!

In my opinion, the death penalty is never an answer. I will repeat myself alot on this post, and I'm sorry but it's how I feel. FORGIVENESS is the key to everything I am about to say.

But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Matthew 5:44-45

where has all of the forgiveness gone in this world? We want instant gratification and if not, to hell with it. He killed my mother kill him!!! Where the hell do you get the crazy notion that that is an acceptable thought?! Who does anyone who thinks that think they are that they can take someone else life? Does no one read The Bible anymore? The family goes through pain, so why does the person who committed the sin, or "break the law", need to be in pain? Punishment and pain are different here. Here are my responses to every ones posts:

Dennis- So only is someone has killed, then it is acceptable to take their life? But what if it is only one person and in self defense? Do they loose their life because they took one? I do not think it is possible to draw the line. Forgiveness does not mean their does not need to be a punishment.

Janny- An eye for an eye? A life for a life? That is one of the least thought out sayings in the history of man. Wrong doings do not give the victim the authority to commit them back. An eye for an eye and the world goes blind

Carrie- It personally does not make sense to me to give the family of the victim the choice of life and death. Maybe it is just me but i think that that is absolutely crazy. How does the family get the right to take his or her life? The government shouldn't even have that right! And what about people who have not families? Homeless John Doe's who tried to rob a place and got shot? Should the shooter get the death penalty?! In the end a person who has taken a life will get his punishment. God gives the only sentence that matters. We were never given the power to take a life!

Nitti- HOLY CRAP! That is probably the most insensitive atheist thing i have ever heard! They should get their meals because they are HUMAN BEINGS, or has everyone else forgotten about that?! I feel like I am the only person who is fighting for life here! "They should die just as quick as their victims did"? wow! So if they were so wrong as to take someones life in the first place what makes it alright that you take their? I would love to hear and answer on that one because everyone seems to think an eye for an eye, but why is that OK? Nitti man that is one of the saddest opinions I have ever heard but to each his own, I guess.

Kristen- Why is the death penalty justifiable?! I really liked how you said it was a very serious matter, and needs to be thought through before given out. I do not think it is ever justifiable, what are situations you think are?

I think everyone should take a step back for a second, look at this from a different point of view. Do not look at this as victims vs a criminal, but rather a human vs a human. We do not have the right to take each other lives not matter what, even if they had taken someone else's. If it is justifiable to take a life, where do we draw the line?

I simply think that to kill someone is wrong and NEVER justifiable.
