I agree with Mandie, emotional trauma is inevitable. However, I do think this situation is very different than the one we read about in class. As I understand it, the other twin is already dead and the toddler is left simply with the excess organs? If that's the case, then she's going to have emotional trauma anyway, she might as well have the chance of a normal life. Since the risk of her surviving is 80% I think it would be worth the operation.
